The annual celebration of the German National Day, for the occasion of the German Unity Day, took place on the evening of October 5th at The Ellinikon Experience Centre, at the historic Athens International Airport in Elliniko.
The outdoor area was arranged accordingly, with many food stations to serve the approximately 1000 guests of the Embassy.
The signature dish of the event was Rouladen (pork roll stuffed with bacon, pickles, onions & mustard), an authentic German dish traditionally served on this day.
The menu also included Hänchenfleisch-Spieß (chicken with sweet mustard and spices), a variety of sausages – Weisswurst, Rindswurst, Currywurst, Blutwurst -, traditional potato salad with pickles, Spätzle with potato and cream from German cheeses, Sauerkraut wrapped with bacon, Fleischsalat (meat salad with pickles and cold cuts).
The desserts served were kirschtorte (the German version of Black Forrest), Krapfen (stuffed donuts) and Apfelstrudel (apple strudel) which stole the show.
Guests accompanied their food with draft beer and wine from Greek vineyards.
